How to Make a Homemade Traditional Italian Hamburger Soup

If you like a soup rich with flavor and an aroma that makes you feel warm and cozy, you’re going to love this traditional hamburger soup.
The combination of herbs and spices come together to produce one of the best tasting homemade soups I’ve ever had.
Make sure to check the ingredients list carefully, for this soup, each ingredient is an integral part of the final flavor.
Italian Hamburger Soup Ingredients

So like most of the best tasting homemade soups, it takes a number of ingredients to create the perfect flavor profile. For this recipe, I do not recommend substitutions or alterations unless there are flavors you just don’t like.
And even if there is an ingredients you don’t generally enjoy, I’d still give the recipe a try as is because the combination is truly delicious.
Italian Hamburger Soup Ingredient List
- Ground Beef
- White Onion (chopped)
- Garlic Salt
- Canned Minestrone Soup
- Canned Tomato Soup
- Water
- Canned Pork and Beans
- Chopped Celery (uncooked)
- Worcestershire Sauce
- Oregano
Ground Beef: I prefer using a lean ground beef, but use your favorite fat content level. You will be draining the excess fat, so any ground beef will work well.
Chopped Onion: White or yellow onions are my favorite for this recipe. You can use purple onions or even green onion for a change of pace.
Canned Soups: Any brand works for your canned soup. Don’t omit any of these, they are integral for the final flavor of your soup.
Pork and Beans: Another important ingredient you don’t want to leave out. The pork and beans contain tomato sauce which is important for the final texture.
Homemade Soup Instructions

This recipe is quite easy to make, unlike many homemade soup recipes you’ll find. I particularly enjoy making my soup the traditional way with a large soup pot.
You can also go with a Dutch oven, or even a crock pot. If you go with a slow cooker, cook on low for eight hours.
Step 1: Brown your ground beef with your onions.
Step 2: Drain fat and then add your ground beef and onions to your soup pot.
Step 3: Add all the remaining ingredients to your soup pot.
Step 4: Bring to a boil then reduce heat to a simmer.
Step 5: Continue to simmer your soup for 20-30 minutes.
Step 6: Serve and enjoy!
